There are two main types of plum coupling, one is traditional straight claw type and the other is curved (concave) claw type zero gap coupling.Traditional straight claw type plum coupling is not suitable for high precision servo drive applications.Zero clearance claw type plum coupling is developed on the basis of straight claw type, but the difference is that it is designed to suit the application of servo system and is commonly used to connect servo motor, step motor and ball screw.The curved surface is designed to reduce the deformation of the elastic plum spacer and to limit the effect of centrifugal force on it at high speeds.Zero-gap claw coupling is a combination of two metal bushings (usually made of aluminium alloy or stainless steel) and a Torx elastic spacer.

The Torx elastic spacer has multiple blade branches and, like a slider coupling, it is also pressed to fit the Torx elastic spacer with the bushings on both sides, thereby ensuring zero clearance performance.Unlike the slider coupling, the plum coupling is driven by extrusion while the slider coupling is driven by shear.When using zero clearance claw coupling, the user must pay attention not to exceed the maximum bearing capacity of the elastic element given by the manufacturer (on the premise of guaranteeing zero clearance), otherwise the elastic spacer of the plum flower will be flattened, deformed, lose elasticity, and the preload will disappear, resulting in loss of zero clearance performance, and may not be found until serious problems occur.
